Accountancy opens the door to business
‘As one of the oldest of Australia’s three recognised accounting bodies, the National Institute of Accountants provides quality education and career progression pathways for its members and for graduates throughout Australia.’
In the modern business world, skilled accountants are expected to be proactive contributors to the day-to-day management of business, as well as providing guidance and insight into long-term future planning.
Accountants benefit throughout their careers from the support of professional associations that provide a range of services, particularly on technical issues and with ongoing education.
The National Institute of Accountants (NIA) is one of the three recognised professional accounting bodies in Australia. With approximately 20,000 members and students in Australia and in more than 50 countries around the world, the NIA is large enough to have influence yet small enough to focus on individuals. At the NIA, every member counts.

NIA Program
The NIA Program is the NIA’s career pathway consisting of separate ‘formal education’ and ‘mentored experience’ components. Graduates of the NIA Program gain an internationally recognised postgraduate qualification of a Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting and/or a Master of Commerce degree.
The NIA Program is delivered online enabling students to work at their own pace and allowing a balance between work
and personal commitments.
The program is administered by the Graduate School of Business (GSB) at the University of New England in New South
Wales. The GSB has a dedicated administrative staff who understand the needs of students juggling work, family and study commitments.
The mentoring component of the program provides the framework for participants to increase both their practical experience and knowledge in the workplace.
Every member counts
‘Every member counts’ at the NIA; and that’s not just about how we take care of our members, it’s about the job our members do. NIA members can be found in CFO, CEO or CIO roles of major corporations, in public practice and throughout the public and private sectors.
The NIA is a modern, forward-thinking organisation providing a range of member benefits. Among its many affiliations, the NIA is a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), which ensures the qualifications of our members have been assessed as equal to those of their peers around the world.
The NIA has a particular focus on providing students with alternative pathways to achieving the highest quality educational credentials.
With the flexibility of three levels of membership, the NIA allows graduates to kick-start their career with immediate Associate membership (ANIA) for those with an advanced diploma or university degree.
We then provide a tailored pathway best suited to assisting you in the development of your own career.
Fast-track your career with the NIA Program
The flexibility of our NIA Program means you can complete Stage 1 in as little as eight months, or you can have up to five years to complete the whole program.
The NIA’s educational standards have been assessed by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) as equivalent to their own international standards.
