In the areas of business management and finance, your roles will vary depending on which service you choose to apply for. For example:
As a Finance Officer in the Army your main role is to provide financial advice within the Army. Some of the day-to-day tasks of a Finance Officer include:
- Preparation of budgets
- Financial Statements
- Cash flow analysis
- Accrual accounting
- Costing
- Financial analysis
There’s also great opportunities to work as a finance officer in the Army Reserve, where you’ll receive great tax-free pay.
If the Air Force is what you’re interested in then the role of Administrative Officer will see you responsible for the management and execution of all military matters not included in tactics and strategy. Primarily you are responsible for personnel, finance and administration of units.
However, if you’re drawn to the call of the open seas, then the role of Supply Officer in the Navy is for you. While the focus of a Supply Officer’s early career remains qualifying for sea service and actually serving at sea, the majority of Supply Officers are employed ashore. The role of Supply Officers ashore is to coordinate logistics support for operational force elements and Fleet units.
If you’re a Graduate, or about to graduate, you could begin with an excellent salary package from $54,300 p.a. Part-time opportunities also exist where you’ll receive tax-free pay and gain leadership and management skills.
What is life like in the ADF?
The ADF is very much a team atmosphere with everyone working together. Your day to day activities will vary depending upon your specialization and the service in which you’re serving. If you’re working in a base environment, you’ll find it’s very much like a regular 9 to 5 job. On deployment you’ll still be doing the same job, but in most cases you’ll be living close by in military accommodation.
