The Economics and Finance Graduate Program offers you challenging and diverse career opportunities; exposure to national level policy development; extensive opportunities for interaction with senior ACT Government executives; and formal support and mentoring to assist your career. We are particularly keen to recruit accounting and finance graduates to our 2008 program.

The Economics and Finance Graduate Program runs for 12 months and involves working full time in key public policy roles in the ACT public service and in particular the ACT Department of Treasury.

Roles available

The ACT Department of Treasury has roles available in:

  • financial and budgetary analysis,
  • accounting;
  • economic analysis and econometrics,
  • law, procurement and contracts management; and
  • public policy.

Your development:

The Economics and Finance Graduate Program includes a structured training and development program that is designed to:

  • enable graduates to integrate effectively, efficiently, and comfortably into the department;
  • develop graduates’ leadership and professional skills;
  • provide opportunities for graduates to establish useful personal and professional networks both inside and outside of the Department; and
  • provide opportunities for graduates, as a group, to contribute to the social and organisational development of the Department.

Studies assistance

The Department actively encourages the continuing professional development of their staff including graduates. Many graduates undertake relevant further study including professional year studies in addition to the 12 month Graduate Program. Previous graduates have undertaken Chartered Accountant and Certified Practicing Accountant programs, professional year studies for admission as legal practitioners, and graduate studies in economics and public policy.

Our requirements

We’re looking for graduates who have a minimum three-year degree, or equivalent, with good academic results in accounting, economics, mathematics, law, public policy, commerce, and related disciplines.

Application details

There are two graduate recruitment rounds in May and September each year. Applications for the Vacation Work Program close in October. Please check the website for the opening and closing dates for all programs.
